Leftovers for lunch yesterday. Dinner with Michael and Auntie Glo at the Tong Palace. I made a little more bori-cha with chocolate chips ice cream last night. It looks good, but I haven't tried it out yet (it's still hardening in the freezer.)
Okay, off to Alaska for two weeks!
Tonight's ice cream is bori-cha (Korean barley tea) again. I cut down on the amount of vanilla sugar by 25%, and forgot a pinch of salt. It's good, but it's a little icey. I think the extra sugar would have helped keep ice crystals from forming. We'll see how it is in the morning (after it's had a night in the freezer.) I thought about shredding and adding some dark (bitter-sweet) chocolate, but in the end I decided against it. There's always next time, yes? But it was probably a mistake to not add it. I mean it's delicious the way it is, but hey, is adding chocolate to ice cream ever wrong?
A blue cheese and beef sandwich from Specialties (pretty good, maybe slightly above average, but in the end, it's still just a sandwich) at work for lunch. Fried chicken (KFC) and rice at home for dinner because that's just the way I felt.
The barley tea ice cream was pretty well received, which is gratifying. I left the rest at work. I still think it's pretty darned mocha-y.
Anyhow lunch from Mehfil with Cristina, Dayo, Bryan, and Jeremy. I got a 1-3 combo, which today was chickpea curry and a pistachio chicken. An excellent combo. As usual, I think I could have used another serving of rice. Maybe next time I'll get a little rice on the side. Dinner with Lisa at Ai (heart) Sushi on Geary. The yelp reviews are pretty spot on. Kinda average sushi. I have to say, thought, that the double-hamachi roll was excellent. You really can't go wrong with adding more hamachi to hamachi. It's like sausage wrapped in bacon -- delicious on top of delicious.
Won ton soup for lunch. Garlic, clam, and sriracha pizza for dinner. Then I went crazy and had a little tub of ice cream for dessert. Now, once again, I am all sorts of buzzed.
Vanilla ice cream and thin mints (yay! for Girl Scout cookie season!) for dessert. The vanilla turned out pretty well. I'm happy with it. I think I messed up a little, though, because I dumped the liquid into the frozen ice cream maker container before I started it turning, so part of the liquid froze right away. Now I know.
Missed lunch coz of a problem at work. Won ton noodles for dinner, along with a late night pineapple, anchovy, and sausage pizza. Again, I don't think the pineapple worked with the anchovy and sausage as well as I had hoped. Oh well.
A scoop of the plain homemade ice cream and honey (fancy-pants orange blossom honey) for dessert. That's a pretty darn good combination, although the honey froze immediately on contact with the ice cream. I'm not sure how (or even if I should) fix that. I have a picture, but it's on my camera still.
I went back to the Tea Garden for lunch today. I wasn't that hungry so I only got a stuffed rice ball for lunch (stuffed with shredded pork and pickled vegetables.) It was pretty good. I rounded out the meal with an apple I got at the office.
Made plain ice cream tonight -- just milk, cream, and sugar. I wanted to make a completely neutral flavor before I started to add stuff (chocolate, vanilla, etc.) to it. It turned out pretty well. I really like the flavor and texture of it. My dream is to make many different tea-based ice creams. Some day!
Viks for lunch with Jeff and Teresa. I had the keema samosa (a weekend special which was okay, but not as good as the regular, every day samosa) and bhuttara cholle. Dinner with Shilpa and Troy at the new-ish crawfish place on Iriving. It was renamed from 'The Boiling Crawfish' to 'Coco's Crawfish'. I don't know who Coco is. Anyhow I really liked the flavor, but I liked the shrimp more than the crawfish. Next time it's all shrimp! And maybe a crab. Jasmine tea ice cream for dessert at Polly Ann's on Noriega (since, hey, we were in the Sunset already.)
